Wiltshire Council have asked us to publicise the forthcoming 2021 National Census to drive awareness of the census among the populations of our parish. The more people that are aware, the higher the completion of the Census and the more information that is gathered that enables informed decisions to be made by the government in terms of addressing the future requirements of our society.
Furthermore this is the first Census that will include the questions relating to military service and which will collect data on who are veterans from the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation that those who serve, and have served, and their families should be treated fairly.
The government, local authorities, the wider public sector, charities, commercial organisations, and civil society all have a role in supporting the Armed Forces community. This includes support to veterans regarding employment, healthcare, housing, education, and financial services. See www.armedforcescovenant.gov.uk
This particularly relevant in Wiltshire due to the large military presence and the large numbers of veterans that live and work here.
